sitting on a gold mine all along.
Just when we thought Hogsback had run out of ways to surprise us, a local resident has discovered gold. Yes… Actual gold, not golden autumn leaves. Not a shiny rock; GOLD!
A Hogsback local, who wishes to remain anonymous for safety reasons (because apparently we now have to protect people from hordes of desperate prospectors with metal detectors); recently discovered a gold nugget on their property.
And it wasn’t exactly tiny…13.3 grams of the big AU!
He said: “This nugget weighed in at 14 grams dirty but with all the iron oxides and dirt cleaned off by soaking in rust remover, it came in at 13.3 grams. It was down about 10 cm and was a real screamer on my detector when it was out of the ground. It was part of a new nugget patch that I found which had never been detected before.”
Will Hogsback soon be overrun by prospectors digging up perfectly innocent flower beds? Who’ll discover the next one? And where?

Gold rushes start somewhere…Someone finds a nugget, they tell someone else; word spreads and before you know it, there are 47 people standing in the veld at sunrise, waving metal detectors around.
